October
2008 - Mission Update
Dear
Friends,
Ps
107:1 “O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for
his mercy endureth for ever.” This evening as I write this
update, I'm thankful for the salvation the Lord has given
to me so many years ago. He is “good” and we thank Him for
His “mercy” which “endures” forever.
News
Update:
The political situation in Kenya has stabilized but it is
still shaky at best. Commissions of inquiry into the post
election violence have completed their tasks and now a major
problem presents itself in just “how” the findings of the
inquiries should be implemented.
Kenya is not being spared from the effects of the global
economic problems. Many in Kenya are finding it hard to
make ends meet.
Along with the economic problems – Kenya, along with a number
of countries in the Horn of Africa, is facing in a number
of areas a severe famine.
Emmanuel Baptist Church has continued to see slow growth
with a number of baptisms and new members joining this year.
Tracy Williams, a single missionary lady working with us
until March 2009, held a Sunday School Teachers Training
Seminar – 7 ladies were in attendance.
Paul's house has almost been finalized – just a few small
items to complete when he returns from the US.
Prayer
Items:
We ask for prayer for Kenya and its leaders - that the fragile
peace we have will continue.
Beginning November 24 we will be starting our final camping
season for 2008.
Paul travels back to Kenya on November 4 – Pray for his
travels.
October 26, Mary Ann & I will be flying to Florida where
I will be performing the marriage ceremony for our son Jared,
one of our twins. We'll then spend the next 4 weeks visiting
family and reporting to a few of our supporting churches.
Thanksgiving will be spent with my family in PA and then
that Saturday we fly back to Kenya to help in the remaining
camps.
Mary Ann has been having increased pain with her trigeminal
neuralgia and the doctor has increased her medication. She
also needs surgery for a displaced jaw. Please pray that
her pain will reduce and get under control.
Thank
you all for your prayers and faithful support. We do appreciate
all of you and prayer God's blessing on America as it goes
through the election time.
Your
servants in Kenya,
Joel
& Mary Ann
