Sam
and Amy Slobodian have served with Baptist International
Evangelistic Ministries, (BIEM) since 1982. The focus of
their ministry is planting churches and training nationals
in Russia and Eastern Europe. Several of the 40 churches
established through this ministry are now self-supporting
and 26 have undergone building programs. This year new churches
are being started in Goncharivske and Ternopyl in Ukraine
and Farcasi in Romania . BIEM's efforts also include training
over 200 Russian and Ukrainian national pastors, missionaries
and Christian workers through a schools established at four
Eastern European locations. They have five children:
Sarah, Susan, Steven, Sharon, and Stephanie.

Praises-
Rejoice With Us!
Although
we regret the war that has taken place in Georgia, we do
praise the Lord for the news of souls saved during these
turbulent days—18 of them at the first service in the new
building BIEM purchased in the city of Gori!
In
Otradnoye, Russia, Oleg Vladyko reports that five children
from an orphanage who attended their summer camp have become
regular attenders in Sunday school. Praise God for many
changed lives as a result of all the summer camps!
After
returning to the field from furlough, one of our key missionary
couples are delighted with the abundant witnessing opportunities
the Lord is giving. God has enabled them to share their
faith with citizens of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, plus
other Muslims. Please pray for spiritual fruit!
From
Bila Tserkva, Ukraine, Bruce Tuttle states that he had the
opportunity to visit the church planted by former student
Igor Landrid in Latvia. Igor now leads a core group there,
and the believers are growing in grace and knowledge of
the Word. Also, Bruce reports an increase in the number
of students enrolled in the college for pastoral training,
which is another wonderful item for praise!

Pray With Us!
On
October 1, BIEM shipped a 40-ft. container of humanitarian
aid, Gospel literature, and other supplies to Gori, Georgia,
which was devastated by the Russian army. Please pray that
it arrives safely and that our folks will be able to deal
successfully with Georgian customs authorities. Also pray
that God will use this shipment to open hearts for the Gospel
and that it will be an encouragement to the local church,
which is distributing the contents.
We
are in the process of purchasing and remodeling a facility
strategically located in a Muslim country to serve as a
base for preparing and launching missionaries to Muslim
lands. Please pray that the construction will be completed
and that the needed funds will be provided.
Just
at the time when we have some great opportunities to reach
into the most unreached part of the world with the Gospel,
the dollar has greatly weakened and our country is facing
some severe economic hardships and uncertainly. This has
affected some supporting churches, and several long-time
supporters of our ministry have had to discontinue support.
Please pray that God would raise others to make up the difference
so that our work can continue to go forward.
The
first weekend in October we will be holding a Muslim missions
conference in the Moscow area for pastors and youth. It
will challenge attendees with the opportunities and need
of reaching the surrounding Muslim countries. Sam Slobodian
will speak at this conference, and those recruited for Muslim
missions at the Kiev Muslim missions conference will attend.
Please pray that God will provide workers and missionaries
through these meetings, and that Russian pastors will catch
a vision for this needy field.
