Qualifications

A prospective student should be able to testify of a personal salvation experience, manifest the ability to communicate the Gospel message, and declare general agreement with the doctrinal statement of this Seminary.

The prospective student is expected to have received a bachelor's degree or its equivalent. A limited number of individuals of more mature age who have not received a bachelor's degree may be accepted into the Certificate program (see Certificate of Graduation).

Prospective students should have the ability to direct their own study. They should manifest a strong sense of responsibility and Christian integrity and should have developed skills in writing, rhetoric, and logic.

Recommended preparatory studies

Although not required as an admissions criteria, it is recommended that a prospective student endeavor to complete courses in the following subjects before entering seminary: English language and literature, English composition, history, philosophy, natural sciences, social sciences, speech, languages, and Bible. It is the understanding gained in these fields rather than the total credits which is significant in providing the student with the discipline and general information which are indispensable to further study.

A prospective student should endeavor to obtain maximum familiarity with the English Bible. Bible exposition courses may be recommended in areas where preparatory work has been deficient.

Nondiscrimination. Calvary Baptist Seminary admits students of any race, color, sex, or national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, or national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.

Women and pastoral ministry. It is the doctrinal position of Calvary and its general constituency that the office of the pastor (known also as a bishop or elder; 1 Tim. 3:1; Titus 1:5) is open only to men. For this reason, CBS does not train women for the office of the pastor. However, with the exception of the Doctor of Ministry program (which is designed specifically for pastors), women may enroll in all programs at CBS. Enrollment for women involves the replacement of homiletics courses with electives taken in the areas of counseling, education, or discipleship. Such programs are designed and approved by the Dean.
